Gol-Aqa Satire Encyclopedia to Be Compiled

TEHRAN, May 3 (MNA) – Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ahmad Masjed Jame’i, announced here that a Gol-Aqa satire encyclopedia will be compiled.

Masjed Jame’i spoke at Kiumars Saberi Fumani’s funeral on Saturday, saying that Saberi promoted literary satire as well as political satire.

“This success was due to his deep knowledge of satire, and today his students are reviving this tradition of satire writing, especially within the political genre,” he added.

Saberi’s prolific satirical legacy is a great gift that should be appreciated and honored. Masjed Jame’i also suggested that a special Gol-Aqa prize should be established.

Born in 1941 in Some’eh-Sara, Gilan Province, the humorist Kiumars Saberi Fumani established the witty weekly Gol-Aqa in 1990 and began a new wave of satirical Iranian journalism.

Iranians referred to him simply as Gol-Aqa (Mr. Flower).
